Can social anxiety link to depression, or is it possible to have symptoms of it without really having it? Kind of like a person without really having OCD, but when they hear paper crinkling they can’t stand it (example). Are there different levels of it? I don’t like drawing attention to myself, but I think I need to be checked out…

I know I have this. It started in middle school. I barely had any friends because I was too afraid to talk to anybody so I was always known as the quiet, shy kid. I somehow managed to get a girlfriend in 8th grade but she broke up with me after a month because I was too afraid to kiss her. I sat in class for years in utter terror that the teacher would call on me and put me on the spot, or ask me to read aloud. Speech class my Sophomore year was the worst. It made me depressed and suicidal.

I think I might have this disorder. I work in health care, but I am very distant from people. Even my own family, I barely speak to them. It really hurts me that I just can’t be open and have a conversation. My nieces and sister came over today. I barely spoke to them and just stayed in the basement. I’m 28 and pretty depressed. I don’t know what to do. I’ve even thought about suicide. I think I might need some serious help.

I was suicidal for a long time I learned Transendental meditation ,it really helped I cant imagine how my life would have been without that inner quietness twice a day.

@imthemusicwriter Long distance truck driving is pretty good for people with SA. It can be a very enjoyable career too if you like being out on the road driving to different places every day. Most truckers love their job You even have a chance to make friends with other truckers if you interact with them over the CB.
You can be away from family though and girlfriends etc if you have any. Not really a job for the family man.
otherwise, i recommend a computer related job such as programming.

@KurdishFaris I sometimes feel the same way, I would talk to them but then I feel like I’ll say something stupid so I just shut up. I know I’m a funny person but I never have the guts to let it out, I also fear to be rejected or to even be engaged me in a negative way. i WAS once brave enough to be social but then I gained weight and lost self-confidence and self-respect. I know I need help now, I think I’ll join the army, shit that will have to help.
I was made best man at my friends wedding.
He dressed me all fancy and prepared me for the ceremony and I was trying to force myself to go on but at the last moment I felt way too dead and said I can’t and I went outside and hid in the back of the church until the ceremony ended. I felt so worthless for letting him down.
I have social anxiety disorder and it just keeps getting worse because I flat out hate people. All of us. I like to think and people prevent me from thinking clearly so I hide in my house forever and now even going to the store is hell. I can make it manageable if I start to get out daily but it sucks and just makes me more unhappy being around people with all of our ideas, opinions and judgements. I can’t stand us. Inner dream #9, look it up.
Is there a way to over come this? I dont want to deal with this for the rest of my life.
